Gabriel Cottage

A self-catering holiday cottage in Wells-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk

ABOUT GABRIEL COTTAGE

General Information
Gabriel Cottage has two bedrooms – the upper bedroom has twin beds while the lower bedroom has a double bed. Next door to the double bedroom is a modern shower room and next door to the twin room is a modern bathroom. On the ground floor also is the kitchen-diner and the spacious, comfortable lounge which leads via French windows to the pleasant walled patio. The driveway provides parking for two vehicles.

Visitors comment on the high standard of cleanliness and fresh appearance of the property. We are proud to have maintained our 4 star rating along with the Gold Award for Quality of Accommodation and Customer Service for over 20 years. We are proud to have maintained a 100% score for cleanliness every year during our Visit England Quality Grading Assessments. To maintain the standards that our visitors appreciate the maximum number of visitors in a party is four adults and unfortunately we cannot accept children, pets or smokers/vapers. The property is appreciated by allergy sufferers.

Visitors are asked to bring and use slippers/house shoes to avoid pavement deposits on carpeting.

Linen
Bed linen is included in the rental cost.  Mattresses and pillows have protective undercovers. The beds are made up prior to your arrival and fresh linen provided weekly.

A bath towel and a hand towel per person are included in the rental cost. However, if you prefer to bring your own towels and tea-towels a reduction of £10.00 per person per week is given.

Bookings
Bookings are Saturday to Saturday.

Entry and Departure:  In normal circumstances to allow adequate turnover time for cleaning and maintenance initial entry to the cottage is 4.00 pm and departure by 10.00 am. However, while the cottage is being quarantined for a week earlier entry is possible. Please contact us for arrangements.

Prior to your visit we endeavour to ensure that visitors will be comfortable so if you have any questions or particular requirements please do not hesitate to call us.

Access and Disability Checklist (checked 10/03/24)

Having sought advice as to our letting of Gabriel Cottage in relation to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) together with consideration of our visitors’ needs and wishes we note as follows:

Gabriel Cottage is suitable for the less mobile but not for those with severe disability. The bedroom and bathroom situated on the ground floor is attractive to elderly people and/or those bringing elderly/frail parents. Experience with our own elderly parents living at the cottage has provided us with useful insights – beneficial to our provision for the elderly, and indeed the not so elderly!

Parking is on the shingle driveway immediately alongside the kitchen door.

Entry is into the kitchen from the shingle driveway: the step has been eased by inserting one step of 12cm onto a non-slip surface followed by a further 12cm step onto carpeting inside the kitchen. We can add a portable ramp.

A walker can be used in the house but a wheelchair could not be manoeuvred – if used outside the house we offer garage space for wheelchair storage.

Notices are provided in large print – the most important being our telephone numbers and reassurance that ‘popping around’ to sort any difficulties is no problem.

Ground floor bedroom
One of our main attractions. Apart from removing the need to mount the stairs it includes a pleasant view of the garden for those who may be forced to spend part of the day resting. We have kept the furniture to the minimum and replaced the dressing table with a narrower console table to maximise access around the room. The bedside lamps respond to touch for on/off and by dimming.

Ground floor shower-room
Adjacent to the bedroom, the shower room is highly favoured. We have ensured there is a substantial bar for aiding the use of the toilet. A raised seat for the toilet is available if required. The shower cubicle has a step of 23cm. A non-slip shower mat is provided. We can provide, if required, an adjustable stool to aid washing or showering.

Sitting Room
Again we endeavour to provide ample room to manoeuvre. The reclining chair is most popular – not just for the elderly! There is direct access to the garden which is both private and secure via the French windows and down a step (25cm) – a portable ramp can be provided for this step if required.

There is a wide range of lighting throughout the cottage; a light comes on at dusk in the hallway and we advise visitors to keep alight the lamp at the top of the stairs. In the sitting room ceiling lamps are supplemented by wall lights and a standard lamp. The bedrooms each have bedside lamps. Outside areas are lit by lamps with PIR sensors.

Mobile phone reception is good with all networks providing 4G signals. EE is not available indoors.

Allergies
We encourage visitors to tell us in advance of their visit what conditions are best for their safety and comfort. Because of allergies, hygiene and comfort, the cottage is non-smoking and no pets; all bedding is allergy-free with covers for mattresses, pillows and duvets.

Apart from meeting and greeting our visitors on arrival we call the day after arrival to ensure they are comfortable. We ensure they are fully aware that they can call us at any time and that we are just minutes (and only 500m) away.
